A36

This grade is a carbon steel used in general plate applications in which the plate is riveted, bolted, or welded. Structural-steel plate that conforms to A36 is produced to chemical and mechanical properties that offer a minimum yield strength of 36 ksi and a minimum tensile strength of 58 ksi on plates up to 8” thick. On plates 8″ thick and over the minimum yield strength is 32 ksi.

A572-50

A high-strength, low-alloy steel, A572 Grade 50 is used in general plate applications in which the plate is riveted, bolted, or welded. This type of structural-steel plate is comprised of a columbium-vanadium steel that offers a minimum yield of 50 ksi and is ideal for applications when reducing weight will result in cost savings. Charpy V-Notch testing is available. Intsel Steel stocks A572-50 plates up to 4″ thick.

A588

A high-strength, low-alloy steel, A588 is used in general plate applications in which the plate is riveted, bolted, or welded. This structural-steel plate conforms to A588 and is a copper-bearing steel that offers a minimum yield strength in the range of 42 KSI to 50 ksi (depending upon thickness, see table) and has approximately two to four times the corrosion resistance of carbon steel without copper. These structural-steel plates are ideal for applications in which cost savings can be achieved by reducing weight or when there are concerns about atmospheric corrosion. Charpy V-notch testing is available. Intsel Steel stocks A588 plates up to 8″ thick.

ASTM A516-GR70

This pressure-vessel-quality steel plate is designed to withstand the extreme conditions associated with containers such as vessels, tanks, and boilers, in which the contents therein are under high pressure. Ideally used in low-temperature applications where notch toughness is required, A516-GR70 grade is a silicon-killed carbon steel that’s made of fine-grain structure. Intsel Steel stocks A516-GR70 plates in normalized, as-rolled condition up to and including 1-1/2″.

T-1 Type B Construction Alloy Steel to A514

This quenched-and-tempered high-strength alloy steel is produced to a minimum yield strength of 100 ksi and offers excellent strength, toughness, and fabrication properties. Ideal for structural applications where its high yield strength can help to reduce part size and overall weight, this type of structural-steel plate is used extensively in bridge fabrication, construction equipment, mining equipment, chutes, liners, bucket and blade parts, and cranes.

AR235 and AR400 Abrasion-Resistant Plate

Impact- and abrasion-resistant steels that offer a significantly longer useful life over lower carbon-steel plates—such as A36—when employed in applications where abrasion, impact, and wear are concerns. Our abrasion-resistant plate is available in two grades of hardness: AR235 for moderate-resistance applications and AR400 for higher-resistance applications. These grades of steel are not intended to be used for structural or load-bearing applications and should not be considered for applications in which there will be a high degree of welding due to the potential for the abrasion-resistant plate to crack. Abrasion-resistant steel plate can be machined and will take a accept amount of forming and rolling and is an excellent choice for when abrasive aggregates are being used. Typical applications for this type of steel plate include mining and earth-moving equipment, liners, mixing drums, material handling, chutes, and hoppers.
